This includes the costs of OA books; the fees being charged for OA books; the range of non-BPC models; the adoption of OA policies for books by funders (both public and private), universities, and publishers.

An overview of OA book publishing will be presented through a typology of book publishers, their business models, and OA book publishing models and policies that brings out the various national differences as well as similarities.

People write and speak continually about the “crisis in scholarly publishing.” Yet the Internet provides new and exciting opportunities for the presentation and promotion of new books—and discussion of the ideas they contain. Indeed, perhaps we are entering the “age of the author.” However, with so many books being published, how does one identify significant titles and go about making these books known to the world?Several areas may provide clues: appendices, bibliographies and general indexes usually accompany scholarly works; prefaces and introductions often contain an author's explicit statement of intention; the content and style of expression will be a good indication of the intended audience.
